Call Committee Report: March 2020

I was asked why there is no longer mention in the Canada Lutheran for the Erickson Lutheran Church seeking a new Pastor. Bishop Jason clarified about Erickson disappearing from the “seeking pastors” section of Canada Lutheran. Canada Lutheran was asked to leave the Erickson listing in, but to change “pending” to “interim” because of our discernment with St. Marks about possible shared ministry. It was also discovered that the MNO section was forgotten completely, as the Ashern and Moosehorn listings were also inadvertently missed. It will be fixed for the next issue.

We continue to dialogue with St. Marks, and are welcoming each other to our events and worship when possible. They are currently discerning how they may be able to support/share a Pastor with us. We trust that we will hear from them soon.

See the information on the bulletin board in the Narthex. The Winnipeg symphony sent information about up and coming concerts in March and April. There is a 25 % of promo code-Faith for states in certain sections.

Transfiguration is a bridge between the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany cycle that comes to a close today and the Lent- Easter cycle that begins in several days. On a high mountain Jesus is revealed as God’s beloved Son, echoing the words at his baptism. This vision of glory sustains us as Jesus faces his impending death in Jerusalem. We turn this week to Ash Wednesday and our yearly baptismal journey from Lent to Easter. Some churches put aside the alleluia at the conclusion of Transfiguration liturgy. Alleluia will be omitted during the penitential season of Lent and will be sung again at Easter.

Worship and Music

The new hymn for the month of March is #741 Your Will Be Done. This music is in the “Prayer” section in the ELW. This selection is published in 15 hymnals.

The text is based on the Lord’s Prayer and the music is traditional music from South Africa. The arranger, John L. Bell, was born in the Scottish town of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. He was a music teacher when he felt the call to the ministry. He did volunteer work in a deprived neighbourhood in London and served as an associate pastor in Amsterdam. After graduation he worked for five years as a youth pastor to broaden youth ministry on renewing church worship.

“Sometimes, MUSIC is the only medicine the heart and soul need.”

Come for some awesome Music Medicine at Erickson Lutheran Church, Sunday, March 29, 7:00pm. Canadian music with Celtic Bluegrass, Folk, Country and Gospel tunes.
