Concerts, concerts, concerts.

Our church continues to host concerts for the community. We have enjoyed the Chamber music from Brandon University. In midAugust a concert performed by Murray and LeAnne Pengally will take place, Murray playing the piano and LeAnne playing the violin. Murray and LeAnne are siblings of Harvey Pengally. In September, the Suski children, Rixon, Hanna and Abbey, will be visiting us for an afternoon of violin music.

Worship and Music

ELW #403 Like the Murmur of the Dove’s Song

Like the Murmur of the Dove's Song, like the challenge of her flight,
Like the vigor of the wind’s rush, like the new flame’s eager might: come,
Holy Spirit, come.
To the members of Christ’s body, to the branches of the vine,
To the church in faith assembled, to our midst as gift and sign: come,
Holy Spirit, come.
With the healing of division, with the ceaseless voice of prayer,
With the power to love and witness, with the peace beyond compare: come,
Holy Spirit, come.

The text for this hymn was written by Rev. Carl P. Daw. Jr. He is an American Episcopal Priest and writer who served as the Executive Director of The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada from 1996 to 2009.

The music was composed by Peter Cutts. Peter was born in England and resides in that country. Peter is a composer of over 130 hymn tunes. His best-known tune BRIDEGROOM is the tune for this hymn.

Council News

LaVerne Uhl resigned from Council. On behalf of the congregation, Council wishes to thank LaVerne for her many years of service on Church Council. Thank you LaVerne❣❣

Cathy Hachenschmidt has allowed her name to stand as Vice-Chairperson. Heather Parrott-Howdle will stand as Education Chair. Thank you to Cathy and Heather! 👍 👏

POP Offeratory Update: Council is unable to find a means of electronic funds transfer that would not increase service fees substantially. The recommendation is that post-dated cheques be put in offering plate once a month or, in the instance where the member is away for extended periods, post-dated cheques may be left with Venton to deposit when due.

A BIG “THANK YOU” to Cathy Hackenschmidt for sharing her expertise with housing walk-throughs and doing the parsonage walk- through to ascertain need for repairs and painting.

VBS on August 7th and 8th: Please see posted lists of what is needed for food and supplies. Donations of money would be gratefully accepted. If you would like to volunteer to help with VBS, call Hilde Vickers at (204)636-2144.

Next Council meeting is Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. If you would be interested in being a Council member, consider this your invitation to attend a meeting. LaVerne says the current council is the best she has worked with in her many years of dedicated service.

Thank Yous!

Thanks to Val, Sue and Viola, for cleaning the choir filing cabinets. It was many hours of sorting and updating the files. There are six music selections that will not used and will be offered to other choirs: A Blessing (18) copies, Be Not Afraid (10) copies, Because He Lives (25) copies, Behold That Star (13) copies, Carols Around (9) copies, I Believe (30) copies.

Thank You to LaVerne for hosting the annual church picnic. The food and fellowship was wonderful. There was also a nice surprise with music provided by Viola and Raymond.

Marion Johnson says “Thanks” for thoughtful sympathy card she received when her great granddaughter Ella died.
