Erickson Lutheran Church - Deacon's Message

Deacon Hildegard Vickers

Deacon Hildegard Vickers

Transition was the theme of our lives when Pastor Jim and I sold our home near Selkirk and began second careers with seminary studies in Saskatoon. We eventually settled in Erickson and are serving Erickson and Christ (Waldersee) Lutheran Churches.

Here in Erickson we experience both the congregation and community transitioning. Long time residents are no longer with us, and young families and new retirees take up residence among us. Much is changing in the world, and some of the changes may cause us to fear.

We need a source of strength and hope and love, in the face of all that changes around us and in us. We need wisdom from of old. As the ancient Psalm writer says in Psalm 46, 1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea 9The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter . . . 10Be still, and know that I am God! . . .

May we continue to grow in trust, may we continue to worship God who loves us, may we take seriously the call to be still and know God is with us.

I am in Erickson most Tuesdays and Fridays and in Waldersee most Wednesdays and Thursdays. I alternate leading worship with Pastor Jim at both locations.
